Our sites location offers a perfect tranquil escape to the Derbyshire countryside. Being located on the Midshire’s Way Walking Trail- this means from Birchwood Farm, there are plenty of beautiful walking routes that will take you to some fantastic Derbyshire landmarks and locations. We are a walkers haven!

Below we have included some of our favourite spots in the local area- For some locations we have discounts so please ask our team before you book tickets so you can get a cheaper experience.

WALKING ROUTES

In our reception/shop we have printed step by step walking routes that can also be downloaded to your phones by using the Komoot Walking App.

Our top walks our team recommendations are

-Cromford Canal – Walk along the canal which supported Arkwright’s Cotton Mills. This walk can vary in timeframe depending on the length you wish to walk (ask our team for more information) This walk is highly recommended for walking into the local town of Cromford (Around 35 mins walk)

-Black Rocks- Walking up the Incline on the High peak trail to the impressive Black Rocks, a local historical landmark that, when you climb the rock, offers breathtaking views of the local area.

-Circular Route around the site- This is the perfect walk around the site, going up the lane to see our herd of cattle and then down the woodland. This walk takes around 20 mins

CROMFORD TOWN

The campsites nearest town is Cromford. An historic village in the heart of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.

All businesses in Cromford are independently owned therefore this is the perfect place to eat, drink and support locally!
